Should DNR be the default for seriously ill patients?

Dr. Alex Smith writes in GeriPal about whether advance directive forms used by patients with serious illness should have a default status of "do not resuscitate." He cites a Health Affairs study that found when given options for care levels, about 80% of patients included in a comfort-care/DNR default accepted that status.
