Vt. hearing officer backs diesel generator for nuclear plant

Entergy should receive a certificate of public good from Vermont's Public Service Board for the company's plan to install a 3,000-kilowatt diesel backup generator at its Vermont Yankee nuclear plant, according to a document released by a hearing officer in the state. The company said it needs the generator because it can no longer depend on the Vernon Hydroelectric Dam for emergency power. "While we appreciate and agree with the hearing officer's recommendation, we remain uncertain as to when the board will rule," said Jim Sinclair, a spokesman for the plant.
