Lawn mowers that follow the ANSI/OPEI B71.1-2003 safety standards contain features that can prevent injuries and accidents, writes Donnie Barrera of Highland County, Ohio. Such walk-behind and ride-on mowers must have operator-presence control, improved seatback height and features that prevent sudden turns and stop blades from running when the machine is in reverse. Lawn mowers should also be serviced regularly to ensure safe operation, Barrera adds.
