The American Cleaning Institute welcomed the bipartisan measure introduced by Sens. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., and David Vitter, R-La., to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act. While there is much work left, "getting to this stage raises the hope that TSCA can be updated in a way that truly protects consumers and allows manufacturers to innovate and produce increasingly sustainable products for many years to come," said ACI President and CEO Ernie Rosenberg. Among other things, the bill would require that all commercially used chemicals are evaluated and labeled based on their potential health and environmental risks, with further assessment by the Environmental Protection Agency for high-priority chemicals.
