Federal bill would eliminate common core as factor in waiver, grant decisions

Rep. Martha Roby, R-Ala., has introduced legislation in Congress in response to the Common Core State Standards that seeks to limit the federal government's reach into education. Under the bill, the federal government would be prohibited from tying a state's use of curricula or assessment policies to grants or policy waivers. At issue, supporters say, is the government's issuing of Race to the Top funds based partly on states' adoption of the common core.
