Senate panel approves immigration-overhaul bill

The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved a wide-ranging overhaul of immigration law in a bipartisan vote of 13-5. The version sent to the full Senate includes changes backed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, aimed at making it easier for high-tech companies to bring in skilled foreign workers and obtain H1-B visas for positions they are unable to fill with Americans.
