Wireless carriers, handset-makers score low on personal data protection

The Electronic Frontier Foundation published ratings of technology companies on how well they protect and inform customers about how their personal data are used. Twitter, Sonic and Google received the highest marks and companies such as Apple and Verizon scored near the bottom. The questions of who controls location data and how it is used are additionally complex, Natasha Leger writes, prompting the Location Forum to release an industry-created set of best practice guidelines for how to improve transparency around location data management.
