IOM: Children should get daily hour of physical activity in school

The Institute of Medicine on Thursday released a report urging schools to help children engage in at least an hour of vigorous or moderate-intensity physical activity each day as well as to make physical education a core subject. Aside from just half of the country's children meeting federal guidelines on physical activity, another concern cited in the report was the decision of 44% of school administrators to reduce PE and recess time following the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001.
