Photo story: Repairs begin on broken-rod problem on Calif. Bay Bridge

Work on repairing the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in California to compensate for broken bolts, or rods, started Thursday. Crews have removed some concrete surrounding the bridge's shear keys to make room for the repairs, and workers are "drilling holes for a saddle that will secure the shear keys to its concrete pier." Several hundred concrete-covered steel cables will secure the saddles.
