An effort in Louisiana to stop the implementation of the Common Core State Standards was defeated in the state Senate by a vote of 27 to 8 on Thursday. Sen. Conrad Appel, a Republican from Metairie, said the effort to repeal the standards was based on untrue assumptions. Appel, chairman of the Education Committee, also questioned why officials would want to walk away when the implementation of the common core has just begun.
