U.S. puts $1 billion toward development of H1N1 flu vaccine

The HHS said the government is earmarking $1 billion to fund clinical trials this summer for an H1N1 swine flu vaccine and to produce two bulk components of the vaccine for stockpiling in case an extensive vaccination program is needed. The government agreed to provide funding to Novartis, Sanofi-Aventis and GlaxoSmithKline to manufacture the vaccine ingredients.
