Facebook, Google find common ground in opposing California bills

Rivals Facebook and Google have joined the efforts by industry and trade groups to defeat pending California measures that would create a "do not track" system for online ads and would require social network users to opt in to share their personal information with marketers. "Prohibiting the collection and use of this data would severely harm future innovation in the state and harm consumers," the companies and others wrote in a letter about the "do not track" proposal.
