N.Y. Democrat argues against GOP Medicare plan, wins House seat

In a hotly contested U.S. House election in New York that was seen as a referendum on Medicare, a Democrat who campaigned against privatization won. Kathy Hochul defeated Republican state legislator Jane Corwin in a district that almost always elects a Republican. Hochul argued that Corwin wanted to cut back Medicare to preserve tax cuts for the wealthy.
