National Mall aims to grow a new, healthy lawn

The National Mall in Washington, D.C., plans to revive its sprawling green lawn as part of an overhaul. The park has enlisted turf expert Murray Cook, and he chose a combination of "tall fescue" grasses and Kentucky bluegrass seed to adorn the space. "Pop-up sprinklers" will irrigate the turf, which will take its water from cisterns buried 22 feet below the ground.
