Acer's move to Android tablet illustrates software's surge

Acer's disclosure Thursday that it will deploy the Android operating system on its new tablet device marked another sign that Google's software has emerged as the major challenger to Apple's iPad, say industry executives. "The tablet trend is clearly going toward Android," said Jack Kang of Marvell Technology Group, a wireless-equipment maker. Acer on Thursday also previewed its Android-based Stream smartphone.
