CNN, Fox, HLN all benefit from May's major headlines

A series of major news stories in May, including the release of three kidnapped women in Ohio, the Jodi Arias murder trial and the deadly Oklahoma tornado, led to above-average rating news for CNN, Fox News and HLN, but not MSNBC. CNN's prime-time ratings among the key 25-to-54 demographic jumped 97% and its overall audience went up 70% compared with the same month last year. Top-rated Fox News increased its overall audience but saw its numbers fall 6% among the 25-to-54 group. HLN, thanks to its gavel-to-gavel reporting on the Arias trial, moved past struggling MSNBC to take third place.
