Group reports sharp rise in Brazilian ethanol output

Ethanol production in Brazil's center-south region has surged, thanks to a record sugarcane crop and favorable weather in late April to early May, according to industry group Unica. Mills in the region this season produced about 858 million gallons of the biofuel by mid-May, up 146% from the comparable period last season, Unica said.
