Good management practices and forward planning are the keys to keeping plants up and running, says John Mannetti, operations-analysis chief for Puget Sound Energy in Washington state. Budgeting for the time and resources needed for proper maintenance saves time and money in the long run, he explains. "Effective job planning increases worker efficiency and leads to a greater percentage of time being devoted to preventive maintenance. This helps to increase plant reliability," he says.
