Nose swabs help reduce infections in VA patients

Veterans Affairs hospitals use a "MRSA bundle" to reduce drug-resistant infections that includes swabbing the inside of patients' noses to see if they already carry methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Such policies have helped reduce hospital-acquired MRSA infections in VA hospital ICUs by 62%.
