Veterans' retirement, health benefits may shrink

With cuts from sequestration looming, the Pentagon may have to trim benefits veterans receive for retirement and health care, according to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Personnel costs are the military's biggest expenditure, Hagel said last week. Military personnel groups say the rigors of military life and the frequent moves and disruptions it involves make the benefits key to retaining troops.
