Avoid backlash from furloughs

Making employees take unpaid furloughs to cut costs may affect morale and productivity, labor experts say. Some employers may engage in practices with furloughed employees -- such as asking them to respond to e-mails -- that could put them at risk of lawsuits and in violation of labor law, the experts say.
