Telemedicine allows Md.-based hospital to consult experts in Delaware

Intensive-care staff at the Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, Md., will gain access to critical-medicine specialists at Christiana Care in Wilmington, Del., under the Maryland eCare project. The eICU platform -- developed by a Philips Healthcare unit -- allows experts at Christiana Care to keep track of patients in real time by providing data, video and voice connectivity. The project, which received $3 million in funding from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, also involves five other Maryland-based facilities.
