NBCT: Connect with students to improve learning

A National Board Certified Teacher in North Carolina says the secret to her success is to have a relationship with each student. "I get to know their name, their interests to show that I actually care," Theresa Pierce said. "Because kids don't care what you know if you don't know them." Her colleagues say Pierce, who recently was named her district's Teacher of the Year, also collaborates with other teachers and makes lessons fun and relevant for her students.
