Engineering solution addresses the problem of medication addiction

A pill dispenser that works something like a gumball machine may be the answer to medication addiction that some patients fall victim to. A Brigham Young University student engineering team tackled the wide-open problem and eventually engineered the dispenser using the BYU Capstone Program precepts. "With brainstorming sessions, Capstone tells you to evaluate your ideas and rank them in ways both quantitative and qualitative -- it’s hard to really put numbers to certain things but it does help you see things more clearly," said Paramedic Chris Blackburn, who suggested the project.
