EU members: Ask consumers about preventing olive oil fraud

Members of the EU Parliament have advised Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Cioloş to continue work to prevent olive oil counterfeits, but with more consumer input. Cioloş noted the commission could have done more to inform consumer groups and restaurants of the reasoning behind a recently withdrawn plan to ban refillable bottles for olive oil at restaurants. An EU farm policy under negotiation could require the commission to consult Parliament on these types of decisions, according to this article.
