Nano-structured catalyst used to produce biomass plastic

P-xylene, commonly used in soda bottles and food packaging, has been produced with 90% yield from lignocellulosic biomass. The new yield level gained by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst was achieved with a nano-structured catalyst called "zeolite beta."
