Drug safety debates focus on proposed changes to FDA

The drug safety debate has attracted doctors, lawyers and legislators to comment on FDA operations and proposed legislation to reform the agency. The drug industry supports the Kennedy-Enzi bill requiring more transparency for clinical trials and giving FDA added authority to change drug labels and require post-market studies. Others are calling for a separate center to monitor drugs on the market or a reformed budget to lessen industry ties.
