Officials announce guidelines for new round of innovation grants

The Education Department released new guidelines on Friday for districts, schools and nonprofits seeking funding through the second round of Investing in Innovation grants. This time, the program will offer a total of $150 million in grants -- compared with $650 million in the first round -- and grants will range from $3 million to $25 million. The guidelines also include a new focus on improving rural schools, reducing matching-funds requirements, and providing more flexibility in determining whether proposals meet the competition's evidence-based outcome requirements.
