FDG-PET/CT outperforms FLT-PET/CT for thyroid cancer metastases

FDG-PET/CT performed better than 18F-fluorothymidine-PET/CT in detecting postoperative lymph-node and distant metastases in thyroid cancer, according to a Japanese study. FDG-PET imaging showed higher sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in the 20-patient study and led to fewer false positive results involving cervical lymph nodes, researchers said.
