Google adds new API for Maps Engine, recants on CalDAV API

Google is adding an API for the Google Maps Engine, allowing developers to add their own custom data layers to Maps instead of simply accessing Google's content for their applications. "The idea here ... is to let organizations use Google's fast mapping cloud infrastructure to layer their data on top of Google Maps and share them with their employees and customers," Frederic Lardinois writes. In addition, Google has reversed its earlier decision to phase out an application programming interface for CalDAV, a program for accessing scheduling info on a remote server.
