Georgia students rack up mixed results on state tests

On Georgia's eighth-grade state exams, a promotion requirement, 23% of pupils statewide failed math and 11% failed reading, according to state figures released Monday. Those students may retake the tests after summer school. While younger students generally fared well on their tests, sixth-graders had failure rates approaching 40% on their state math and science exams.
