Once-daily lixisenatide was as effective as twice-daily exenatide in improving A1C and fasting plasma glucose levels in adult type 2 diabetes patients who showed poor response to metformin, according to a study in Diabetes Care. Researchers also noted lower incidence of symptomatic hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal events among lixisenatide-treated patients than in those who took exenatide. However, the lixisenatide group had less weight loss compared with the exenatide group, researchers said.
