Palliative care expert Dr. Ira Byock to retire

Dr. Ira Byock is retiring as director of palliative medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and plans to move to Montana to be closer to his children. Byock, a nationally recognized expert in palliative care, said the hospital is a strong supporter of the specialty, so it is time for him to refocus on personal priorities. "That's what I counsel and help other people do who I see as patients. It's sort of time for us to take stock and look at what's really most important in our lives," he said in a video.
