Postsurgical program may curb pulmonary complications

A multidisciplinary postoperative care program called I COUGH was linked to reduced incidence of pneumonia and unplanned intubation after surgical procedures, according to a study in JAMA Surgery. Researchers followed 250 adults after vascular or general surgery and found that 69.1% of them were out of bed after the I COUGH implementation, compared with 19.6% before.
