Column: National education standards are no silver bullet

Washington Post columnist Valerie Strauss writes that while states are considering the adoption of a common set of national education standards released last week, education will not be equal until resources are shared equally. Widespread education-budget cuts are expected to reduce the number of teaching jobs, which will harm student learning, Strauss writes. She also notes that the standards might expect too much from students too soon.
