GAO: VA frequently mishandles reservists' paperwork

Record-keeping problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs are particularly troublesome for National Guard and Reserve members, who often have multiple, nonconsecutive deployments, according to a report last year by the Government Accountability Office. "What I tell people to do is to get three copies of their medical records. One to put in a safe place ... one just to send in to the VA and a third to send in to the VA when they lose the first one," said John Wells, who owns a military law firm.
