NICB: Vehicle fraud on the rise

Fraudulent vehicle-fire cases rose by 27% in the first quarter of 2009 compared with the same period last year, while owner give-up cases climbed by 24%, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Investigators said the rise is to be expected in a bad economy, as some car owners commit fraud to get insurance payoffs.
