New Treasury rules aimed at bolstering CMBS market

The long-troubled and now turbulent market for commercial mortgage-backed securities may soon get a helping hand from the U.S. Treasury, in the form of new rules encouraging negotiations between borrowers in trouble and their lenders. As they stand now, tax rules make it difficult for commercial property owners and developers to talk to CMBS servicers until they are already delinquent.
