House lawmakers have competing plans for Medicare pay reform

A U.S. House Republican plan to change how Medicare pays physicians was criticized by Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-Pa., who says it mostly keeps fee-for-service payments without adding quality requirements and uses new delivery models such as patient-centered medical homes as an option to avoid payment cuts. Schwartz has proposed allowing physicians to maintain fee-for-service payments as long as higher quality standards are met.
