Interior Department extends comment period for fracking rules

The public comment period for the Department of the Interior's proposed rules covering hydraulic fracturing on federal lands will be extended for 60 days, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said. The revised proposal, which would mandate disclosure of chemicals used in fracking, has been called unnecessary by energy industry groups, while environmental groups argue that the revised rules are less stringent than the earlier version.
