PET/MRI comparable to PET/CT for cardiac muscle assessment

PET/MR imaging performs comparably with PET/CT in evaluating viability of heart muscle in patients with no history of cardiac trouble, according to a study presented at the SNMMI Annual Meeting. Researchers said MR can be used for PET attenuation correction and is beneficial in part because it requires lower radiation dose. "Our hope is that in the future, PET/MR will become the imaging modality of choice for certain cardiac diseases," said researcher Dr. Jeffrey Lau.
