Quick vote on drug compounding measure urged by 2 senators

Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and ranking member Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., wrote a letter Friday asking Senate leaders to conduct a quick vote on a measure that would give the FDA greater regulatory power over nontraditional drug compounders. Another disease outbreak linked to compounded drugs is possible unless the measure comes to the floor next month, the senators warned. The bill "provides the necessary clarity and accountability to ensure the proper oversight of all compounded drugs," the senators wrote.
