St. Louis addressing disparities in breast cancer outcomes

St. Louis is tackling racial disparities in breast cancer care by creating a health navigator program, locating community centers in ZIP codes with high death rates and having cancer survivors act as "buddies" who educate other women. Data from the St. Louis Regional Health Commission show breast cancer mortality rates dropped 30% among black women from 2000 to 2010, although disparities are increasing elsewhere in the region.
