CIOs trimmed IT spending almost 5% in Q1, survey finds

IT businesses cut spending by 4.7% on average in the first quarter of 2009, with CIOs focusing on renegotiating vendor agreements and job layoffs to scale down budgets, according to a 900-person survey from Gartner. However, CIOs said they expect the economy to pick up between the first and third quarters of next year and are prepared to add staff as well as implement more projects.
