Gulf oil-spill struggles take a toll on pets

Animal shelters along coastal areas in Louisiana are deluged with pets abandoned by owners as a result of the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Unemployed fishermen are struggling to care for their families and pets, and are opting to surrender their animals, said the director of an animal shelter in Plaquemines Parish.
