Australia, New Zealand launch early-warning system

Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration and New Zealand's Medsafe adopted common procedures June 4 to issue two types of warnings for potential safety problems with drugs and medical devices: monitoring and alert communications. Industry associations in Australia have raised objections to elements of the plan calling for monitoring communications about possible safety issues that have not yet been investigated, saying such steps could cause unnecessary confusion among consumers and health professionals.
