Indian drug wholesalers withhold stocks to protest price cuts

India's FDA has threatened to take action against drug wholesalers who have halted purchases of fresh drugs and medical supplies to protest price reductions that they say are cutting their profit margins by almost half or more. The new National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy expands direct regulation from 74 to 348 essential drugs, cuts prices of some drugs by 20% to 25% and by as much as 80% for several designated lifesaving medications.
