New app designed to take dispatchers closer to the scene

University of North Texas researchers are using $1 million in grants to develop Life Guard, a smartphone application that gives 9-1-1 dispatchers more information about emergencies. The app will offer text-to-speech technology, vital sign monitors and remote control of smartphone cameras so dispatchers can view a scene. Engineering professor Ram Dantu says the app uses available technology "to bring 9-1-1 operators closer to emergency scenes than ever before."
