Dr. Peter Herscovitch, chair of SNMMI's Scientific Program Committee, announced at the society's annual meeting that this year's SNMMI Image of the Year is an FDG-PET/CT scan that shows the effectiveness of radium-223 dichloride in addressing bone metastases in breast cancer patients with bone-dominant disease. The image is from research at the Institut Jules Bordet in Brussels. More than 2,000 studies were screened for the image of the year. Herscovitch said the image "shows the results of molecular imaging therapy and shows how molecular imaging with FDG-PET can be used to show the response of tumors to therapy."
