Geithner, Summers seemingly involved in Merrill buyout talks

A handwritten note dated Dec. 21 by a Bank of America executive suggests that U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Lawrence Summers, President Barack Obama's lead economic adviser, supported pressure put on the bank to complete its acquisition of Merrill Lynch. While their involvement was apparently minimal, the perception that officials from the Obama administration agreed with officials in the Bush administration puts additional pressure on bankers, sources said.
